The holiday season is here and I will be featuring some gift ideas. My first gift idea is coffee table books. I have always wanted some coffee table books in my home, but specifically books whose artistic images feature my culture and also my love for history. The coffee table books featured below are my favorites that I love to peruse through and are great décor for my bookshelf.
Gullah images by Johnathan Greene because the images connect to my Gullah-Geechee heritage and remind me of my summers at my grandparents house in low country SC.
Black Book by Middleton A. Harris is the classic New York Times bestseller edited by Toni Morrison, offering an encyclopedic look at the black experience in America from 1619 through the 1940s.
Crowns by Michale Cunningham and Craig Marberry reminds me of my grandmother who was a First Lady who loved her crown to be adorned with church hats. I remember going in her sunroom where she stored her church hats to look at them and even sometimes try them on.
Unseen by Darcy Eveleigh et. al showcases unpublished photographs from the New York Times of the Black community. This book features photographs of the black experience and explores the stories behind them showcasing black joy, black sorrow, and black triumph in critical moments of Black History captured in the photos.
