Perhaps because I was born in the 80s, I tend to be attracted to many 80s style trends such as shoulder pads suits, floral dresses, and puff sleeves! I think it is likely due to memories of my Mother's style when I was growing up. I think what I have always worn puff sleeves before it was a trend that arose last summer in 2020. These voluminous sleeves used to be hard to find as I would scour the thrift store racks, but now they are the must wear style trend and they are the pop detail of many tops, dresses, blazers, and coats/jackets.
I have been going through my closet doing a Spring clean-out (check out my blog here if you need help!), and I definitely have my puff sleeve tops on the keep list. Puff sleeve or balloon sleeve are such a feminine detail, and honestly this style had been around since the 1800s. Despite my broad shoulders, I think the puff sleeve makes me feel so girly and I love to really embrace my femininity when I am out of my uniform.
So you probably are wondering how to wear such a dramatic top or even dress with the puff sleeve trend. I paired the tops with high waist ripped jeans that I grabbed from Target and wore some cute heeled sandals. However, I could definitely see myself wearing the puff sleeve tops with shorts or even tucked into a pencil or maxi skirt. I think the key with a puff sleeve top is to keep it simple, and let the sleeves be the drama in the outfit.
